Ribbon Care & Info

Cleaning Your Ribbon

If your ribbon becomes soiled or wrinkled from handling or styling:

  • Gently hand wash the entire length of ribbon in cool water using a mild soap.

  • Rinse thoroughly and hang to air dry away from direct sunlight, as prolonged sun exposure can fade natural dyes.

Please note: natural silk is sensitive to pH changes, and soaps or even water types (hard or soft) can sometimes cause subtle tonal shifts in the dye. This is part of the organic beauty of naturally dyed materials and not considered a flaw.

Removing Wrinkles & Creases

Your ribbon may arrive with light creases, especially if shipped in a flat envelope. Here’s how to smooth them out:

  • The quickest method is to use a clean hair straightener on medium to high heat (around 350°F/175°C). Make sure the plates are free of residue before use.

  • Alternatively, use a handheld iron. Place a pressing cloth between the ribbon and iron for extra protection.

  • For silk table runners, a gentle steam works beautifully to relax any folds or wrinkles.

Fraying & Feathered Edges

Many of our ribbons are hand torn, giving them a soft, romantic feathered edge. Over time, some additional fraying may occur — this is natural and adds to the character of the ribbon.

  • If you notice any long threads, you can either trim them carefully with scissors or pull them out by hand.

Bias-cut silk ribbons have edges cut on the diagonal and will not fray in the same way. However, with use — especially when tied in bows, knots, or wrapped around bouquets — the edges will gently feather and soften over time.
