Care
Care
Cleaning
To clean your silk ribbon, wash the entire ribbon and hang to dry away from direct sunlight to maintain its color. Please note: pH changes (from soaps or water) may cause subtle tonal shifts in the silk.
Ironing & Steaming
If your ribbon arrives folded in a flat envelope, follow these steps to remove creases:
-Use a hair straightener on medium to high heat (350°F), ensuring the plates are clean and free of product residue.
-Alternatively, you can press it with a hand iron on low heat.
For silk table runners, a gentle steam will smooth out wrinkles.
Fraying
Our hand-torn ribbons feature a soft, feathered edge. If you notice a loose thread, you can either trim it with scissors or pull it out completely.
Note: Bias cut ribbons have a straight cut edge and will not fray. However, over time and with use (especially when tied in bows or knots), they will naturally develop a soft, feathered edge.
Natural Dye
Natural Dye
All of our silk ribbons are hand-dyed using natural dyes and are thoroughly washed before reaching you. Since the colors come directly from nature, each dye lot may vary slightly, and you may notice subtle differences or markings throughout the ribbon.
A mordant is used during the dyeing process to make the dye colorfast, ensuring the color will not wash out. However, some colors are more like a stain than a true dye, which means they may fade more easily over time.
The colorfastness of each ribbon depends on the natural properties of the dye used. While the color is designed to be durable, please note that exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods can cause fading over time.
Types of Silk
Types of Silk
Chiffon Silk
Elegant and sheer, with a soft crepe texture (ie not shiny)
Light and feathery
Crepe de Chine Silk
Lightweight but not as sheer as Chiffon
Slightly pebbled texture
Charmeuse Silk
Heavier than chiffon and Crepe
Slightly shiny on one side and matte on the other
Bias Cut Charmeuse
Cut on a 45-degree diagonal for a flowing, elegant drape.
The bias cut prevents fraying and creates a beautiful natural movement, especially suited for tying bouquets or styling heirloom details.
Hand Cut: Ribbons that are hand-cut by me after dyeing (as noted in the listing) have a clean, crisp edge that will feather when you rub your finger along the edge.
Typically 2.2 yards long.
